Director, Business Development


Are you looking for a fantastic opportunity to work for a growing biotech in the Boston area and make a significant contribution to our long-term growth?  Abpro is looking for an exceptional and energetic Director, Business Development to drive ongoing business and corporate development activities through alliances, in-licensing and out-licensing opportunities, investments, partnerships, and other value-creating collaborations.

Daily Responsibilities:

  • Develop the business development strategy, identify potential partner candidates, and assess specific partnering opportunities.
  • Seek, evaluate, recommend and develop relationships with potential partners at the business and technical level in the life science space.  Communicate recommendations utilizing financial and analytical models.
  • Triage externally generated licensing and/or collaboration opportunities.
  • Develop, propose and lead negotiation strategies in line with company’s business objectives.
  • Execute mid-late stage processes including processing of term sheets, deal documents, financial analyses, due diligence and deal documents.
  • Manage cross-functional teams through initial evaluation of opportunities and various interactions with potential partners.
  • Drive constant gathering of market and competitive intelligence.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting or business related field.  MBA or JD a plus though not required
  • Minimum 10 years of experience working for a pharmaceutical/biotech company in business development, licensing, or strategic analysis capacities or experience working for a consulting firm with pharmaceutical/biotech industry experience
  • Investment banking or private equity experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated track record of closing business development partnerships, with an emphasis on partnership execution (analytics, negotiations, structuring, and drafting of partnership contracts)
  • Track record of significantly participating in strategic collaborations and in-licensing agreements.
  • Knowledge of market and competitive environment including deal activity and potential opportunities. Knowledge of the resources available to drive a deeper understanding of these topics.
  • Proven ability to “think on your feet” both during negotiations with third parties and during internal discussions of risks and strategy
  • Excellent professional written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in preparing detailed analyses on business development partnerships while also being able to provide a concise summary with key conclusions
  • Strong analytical skills, with extreme attention to detail, accuracy and accountability balanced with sound business judgment and execution speed
  • Ability to function autonomously and drive strategic decisions while also executing deals from sourcing to deal close
  • Ability to make strong professional and credible impressions with senior-level audiences
  • Ability to forge relationships both internally as well as externally
  • Must be willing to travel ~30%
